Homeowner discovers Shared Ownership with a new home at Tangier Walk

Date Posted

Debbie decided that it was a good time to think about downsizing to a smaller, more manageable property. Having spent a few years living in a three bedroom home in nearby Hedge End, Debbie was pleased to learn that there was a Shared Ownership development available nearby. She now owns a two bedroom, semi-detached house at Tangier Walk in the quaint village of Bishop’s Waltham, near Southampton.

She explains why downsizing was the right move for her: “Having been a single parent all my life, I’ve learnt that the definition of what a home means to you can change dependent on what stage of life you’re in. My children are getting older and I knew it was the right time to find a smaller property that suited my lifestyle and my youngest daughter.

“I’ve spent over a decade living in the area and particularly like the sense of community and familiarity that is associated with the villages and towns in this part of Hampshire. After living in a larger property in Hedge End, I needed to downsize and find a place that was more practical for me and aligned with the things I like to do now that my children are growing up."

Debbie explains the benefit of buying a new home with Shared Ownership: “By buying through Shared Ownership, I’ve got the benefit of having all the small touches and the quality that goes into a new build. I didn’t have to do anything to my new home. In my previous property, there was always something that needed to be done. In my Abri home, there are no worries about maintenance."

Tangier Walk's charming village location was key in Debbie's decision to move: “The location is ideal and I love the community that comes with it. I appreciate the way that the development at Tangier Walk has been designed – with landscaped open spaces, parks and gardens, while being close enough to be able to walk to the village which has all the essential amenities and facilities. I am a dog owner and it’s great that I don’t have to get in the car to take them for a walk.

“I can hear the cows in the nearby fields, the children running around and playing football in the park and it makes you feel more relaxed. It feels like home. At the same time, the larger local cities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester are a short drive away, or there’s Waltham Chase and Botley nearby if you fancy a slower pace to the city bustle.

“The location of my previous property was starting to become too busy and congested, so Tangier Walk is a breath of fresh air and I was so pleased to know that it was accessible and affordable for me. The location of the village gives me a sense of community, with a range of facilities a stone’s throw away. The quiet around you also makes for a better experience."

Debbie's experience with Abri Homes was straightforward all the way through: “The process from exchange to completion couldn’t have been smoother. Abri did a great job of supporting me as I made a big life change. I had a good relationship with the Sales Executive on the site and the whole team was helpful and always available to answer questions.

“It can be overwhelming and really nerve-wracking but the sales team ensured everything went smoothly for me. I couldn’t recommend them enough”.
