Shared Ownership explained
Shared Ownership is a government-backed scheme, designed to make buying a home easier. You can choose the location and property that's right for you, then buy a percentage of your home, and pay a reduced rent on the rest.
Who's eligible?
Shared Ownership does have a list of affordability and eligibility criteria which you'll need to meet before we can offer you a home.
- You must be aged 18 or over.
- Your annual household income must be less than £80,000 (£90,000 if you're in London).
- You should be a first-time buyer (or, if you do already own a home, you must be in the process of selling it).
- You should not be able to afford a home suitable to your needs on the open market.
- You will need at least a 5% deposit of the share that you're purchasing.
Some local authorities also require you to have a local connection. So, you may either need to live, work or have a family connection to the local area. We highlight on our property pages when a local connection is needed.
